All terms in this list:
collagen: most abundant protein in body; tensile strength & inextensibility-limit motion & resist stretch; main constituents of ligaments and tendons-arranged in bundles called fascicles
fascicles: (name for wavy bundles of collagen in tendon) composed of fibrils which consist of subfibrils which are composed of collagen filaments
crimp: wavelike folds of collagen fibers; when fiber is pulled, its crimp straightens and length increases (spring-like) energy stored in fiber is released
Elastic fibers: responsible for determining possible range of extensibility of muscle cells; only when exceed 150% of original length do reach rupture pt
tendon: tough cord like tissue connects muscle to bone; transmit force from muscle to bone producing motion; consist of fibrils oriented in direction of normal physiological stress
Intramuscular (deep) fascia: directly related to flexibility and ROM; provide framework, enable safe & effective transmission of forces, provide necessary lube bween muscle fibers
