download: To transfer (computer data, especially as one or more files) from a remote computer (server) to a local computer, usually via a network. noun a file that has been, or will be transferred in this way.

emoticon: A graphical representation, either in the form of an image or made up of ASCII characters, of a particular emotion of the writer.

extranet: A private computer network that uses Internet protocols and can be accessed by authorized individuals via the Internet.

hit: a request made to a Web server. It is a popular misconception that the term refers to the number of visits a Web page gets, but that is not the case.

home page: The main or first page of a web site, typically with hyperlinks to the other pages. The page set to open in a web browser when it is loaded.

https: (Prefix on internet addresses) Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, (HTTP Secure) an encrypted form of information transfer on the internet.

http: Hypertext Transfer Protocol, the protocol used most commonly to transfer web pages and accompanying data over the Internet

hyperlink: An area on a web page that can be triggered, usually by clicking, to cause another document to load in the browser. verb to add a hyperlink to a document.

hypermedia: The use of text, data, graphics, audio and video as elements of an extended hypertext system in which all elements are linked so that the user can move between them at will

hypertext: Digital text in which the reader may navigate related information through embedded hyperlinks.

IM: (verb) to instant message, typically sent/received by cell phone, PDA, or computer. noun The instant message sent via the internet. noun an instant message

impression: Each time a Web page is shown to a visitor.

inbox: The main folder incoming e-mail gets stored in.
