chlorophyll: Chlorophyll- a green pigment that is used to absorbs light.

Non-vascular Plant: any plant that does not ave a vascular system

vascular plant: Any plant possessing vascular tissue (xylem and phloem), including ferns, conifers, and flowering plants.

gymnosperms: A group of seed plants, whose seeds are not enclosed in an ovary. The most important group of gymnosperms (Gymnospermae) are the conifers (Coniferae or Coniferales).

angiosperm: A member of the plant group characterized by having ovules enclosed in an ovary; the angiosperms or flowering plants: the Angiospermae, Magnoliophyta, Magnoliopsida, etc.

Vascular plant: Any plant possessing vascular tissue (xylem and phloem), including ferns, conifers, and flowering plants.

photosynthesis: The process by which plants and other photoautotrophs generate carbohydrates and oxygen from carbon dioxide, water, and light energy in chloroplasts.

Rhizoid: A rootlike structure in fungi and some plants that acts as support and/or aids the absorption of nutrients.

Xylem: A vascular tissue in land plants primarily responsible for the distribution of water and minerals taken up by the roots; also the primary component of wood.

Petal: one of the component parts of the corolla of a flower, when this consists of separate parts, that is it is not fused. Petals are often brightly colored.

Stoma: One of the tiny pores in the epidermis of a leaf or stem through which gases and water vapor pass.

Phloem: A vascular tissue in land plants primarily responsible for the distribution of sugars and nutrients manufactured in the shoot.

Pistil: A discrete unit in the center of a flower which receives the pollen and produces a fruit, consisting of one or more fused carpels. Some plant species have more than one pistil per flower.

Stamen: In flowering plants, the structure in a flower that produces pollen, typically consisting of an anther and a filament.
