abiotic: Nonliving, inanimate, characterised by the absence of life.
atmosphere: The gases surrounding the Earth or any astronomical body.
autotroph: Any organism that can synthesize its food from inorganic substances, using heat or light as a source of energy
biomass: Vegetation used as a fuel, or source of energy, especially if cultivated for that purpose.The total mass of all living things within a specific area, habitat etc.
biomes: are climatically and geographically defined as contiguous areas with similar climatic conditions on the Earth, such as communities of plants, animals, and soil organisms, and are often referred to as ecosystems
carbon cycle: the physical cycle of carbon through the Earth’s biosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere that includes such processes as photosynthesis, decomposition, and respiration.
carnivore: Any animal that eats meat as the main part of its diet.
commensalism: A sharing of the same environment by two organisms where one species benefits and the other is unaffected.
community: a group of living things in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
condensation: The act or process of condensing or of being condensed; the state of being condensed
consumer: An organism that cannot synthesize its own food and is dependent on complex organic substances for nutrition.
decomposer: An organism, often a bacterium or fungus, that feeds on and breaks down dead plant or animal matter, thus making organic nutrients available to the ecosystem.
ecology: The branch of biology dealing with the relationships of organisms with their environment and with each other.
ecosystem: The interconnectedness of organisms (plants, animals, microbes) with each other and their environment.
energy pyramid: is a graphical model of energy flow in a community. The different levels represent different groups of organisms that might compose a food
environment: the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates.
evaporation: The process in which all or a portion of liquid (in a container) is turned into vapour, in order to increase the concentration of solid matter in the mixture.
food chain: The feeding relationships between species in a biotic community.
water cycle: The natural cycle of evaporation of water from the oceans etc, and subsequent condensation and precipitation as rain and snow
