medial: Pertaining to the inside; closer to the midline.
cranial cavity: within the skull, protects the brain
spinal cavity: located in the spinal column, protects the spinal cord
homeostasis: The ability of a system or living organism to adjust its internal environment to maintain a stable equilibrium.
thoracic cavity: also the chest cavity, protects the heart and lungs
diaphragm: muscle that separates the thoracic and abdominal cavities.
abdominal cavity: contains the major organs of digestion, referred to simply as the abdomen.
pelvic cavity: contains the organs of the reproductive and excretory systems.
RUQ: right upper quadrant
RLQ: right lower quadrant
hypochondriac: located on the sides and covered by the lower ribs. (below the ribs)
epigastric: located above the stomach

thoracic: chest region
lumbar: loin or flank region between the ribs and the hip bones.
sacral: immediately above the coccyx.
coccygeal: relating to the coccyx
cervical: neck region
auricular region: around the ears
axillary: armpits

clavicular: on each side of the sternum (breast bone)
mammary: breast area
orbital: around the eyes
